Steering Committee Minutes: July 26, 2019

East Bay DSA, Steering Committee Meeting, July 26, 2019, 6–7 p.m.

Introductions and Opening Statements

This special virtual meeting of the Steering Committee (SC) was called to discuss and vote on the resolution tabled at the previous SC meeting. Abigail G.-G. and Keith B. B. chaired the meeting. The recording secretary took notes. Also present at the meeting were Allie L., Rex L. C., Maura M., Shane R., Matt S., Annika B., Marissa S., Jack M., and Sean M. Hannah E. joined mid-call. 

New Business

[SC.2019.79] Resolution for Seating East Bay Delegates

Submitted and motivated by Keith B. B.

Whereas on 7/21/19, the Steering Committee unanimously passed the Resolution on Delegate Election Data, SC Authority, and Seating Delegates,

Whereas the according vote count data was publicly released on 7/23,

Whereas the data indicates that vote count was tallied accurately under the Modified Borda system which members expected, based on communication at the election meeting and prior email, 

Therefore be it resolved that we as elected members of the Steering Committee call on the 2019 DSA Convention to seat all elected East Bay delegates.

Following motivation, there was a period of discussion amongst the members of the SC. During discussion, a motion was passed to extend time by 15 minutes.

After discussion, the resolution PASSED by a vote of 9 in favor and 4 abstaining*. 

*4 Steering Committee members elected to amend their original vote in favor to an abstention via email on July 28th.
